1. The Gospel Script / Soul-Winner’s Script / Salvation Script origins can be traced back to the American Tract Society in the early 1800s.
2. D. L. Moody heavily used and incorporated the first two verses, Romans 3:23 - all have sinned… and Romans 6:23 (first ½) - the wages of sin is death, with the notion that if people felt sorry enough for their sins, they would seek God to help them live better.
3. Torrey, an associate of Moody, took it one step further and incorporated most of the Romans Road Scripture chain that we use today (although the term “Romans Road” was not used then). That method emphasized lay evangelism. That is, individuals being trained to share this message of salvation through Christ. Lay evangelism manuals spread the practice of memorized verse chains.
4. In 1956, there is a documented historical record of “The Romans Road” being used and defined as Romans 3:23; Romans 5:8; Romans 6:23; Romans 10:9-10; and Romans 10:13. That documentation also points to Roman Road being used at least in the 1940s and possibly further back.
5. In the 1960s-1970s, the Jesus People movement out of California and Minneapolis heavily emphasized and used the “Romans Road to Salvation,” with an additional emphasis on the Holy Spirit, segueing into the “Charismatic Movement.”
6. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Romans Road / Pauline revelation was substantially swept under the rug, and de-emphasizing the individual's responsibility to know and share this message (laying the foundation of the present "Lodociean" Church of today)
7. In 1999, the “Gospel Script / Salvation Script” was coined as currently in use today. With it, tens of millions have come to Christ as of this date.
8. Now believers are being taught that THEY have the power of God, and are going forth in power to share this simple but deep message.
